How come i only have 20 facebook friends but the counter shows 21?

I only have 20 facebok friends but the counter number above that shows how many friends.. shows 21

Facebook friend count often changes and is not always totally accurate. They recently have been counting friends, in your friends total who may have deactivated their accounts.
