In general, people who get less sleep than others are more likely to result in a weakened immune system, which can increase the chances of getting sick.

A number of experts have stated that when a person gets only five hours of sleep per night over a period of five days, his or her immune system will be weakened by 50%.

Participants of a sleep study, showed that if they slept fewer than seven hours a night and exposed to a cold virus, they became three times more likely to come down with a cold as the participants who got at least eight hours of sleep per night.
