My cat keeps pulling fur out of her tail. She had a lovely bushy tail but it now looks thinner. Does anyone know why she does this?

She is a long haired cat who seems happy in herself and healthy. There are no skin problems that can be seen and when I asked a vet why she could be doing this, he had no idea. Please advise me if you have any experience or knowledge of this problem
