Before you attempt to clean them yourself, have your vet examine them first. Use a ceruminolytic (de – waxing) agent or any ear cleaning agent that can be found in pet stores. Swaddle your cat in a towel and lay her on your lap. To make the ear canal accessible, fold your cat’s ear back, fill it with the ear cleaning agent and massage gently so the wax can be loosened by the solution. Give your cat time to shake his head for 5 minutes. Use a gauze or cotton swab, not a cotton tip applicator (Q-tip), to wipe the inside of your cat’s ear. Take note that normal ear wax is light brown so any kind of liquid discharge from your cat’s ears is serious and you should contact your vet immediately.
