Water retention, sometimes referred to as bloating, is the excessive buildup of fluid in the body. If you’re bloated most of the time, causes may include insufficient fluid intake, unhealthy food consumption, or certain medical conditions. Some people who suffer from water retention often think that drinking more water will make the bloating worse, leaving no room for improvement. If you want to see results, you will have to commit in trusting the best cure for bloating, which is basically what we call, water.

Most health experts say that the average person should drink 8 glasses of water a day. However, your water intake could also depend on your weight. Other healthcare professionals suggest drinking half an ounce per pound of body mass. For instance, if you weigh 150 pounds, drinking 75 ounces of water per day will be good for you. Fluid intake does not only depend on body weight, but your physical activity level, food diet, health conditions and even the climate of your residence, should also be considered in modifying your drinking habits.

Drinking distilled, instead of tap water, is the best way to replenish your body with fluids, given that chlorine and other impurities could be hazardous to your health. Other fluid sources include fruits and vegetables high in water content, such as watermelon, tomatoes and cucumber. However, these are only supplementary. Some health experts say that water goes through a different body process as compared to watery foods and other beverages. Drinking other types of fluids in replacement of water does not automatically supply enough hydration. Therefore, a balanced intake of water with these fruits and vegetables is the best way to avoid bloating.

Drinking more water daily can not only help replenish body fluids, but also wash away toxins from the body. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should increase their water intake, as well as dieters and other people who have ailments which causes vomiting and diarrhea. For those who are suffering from bladder infections, maintaining a regular and sufficient intake of water can lessen the complications.

However, some experts say that an excessive intake of water can make the body’s electrolytes out of balance and may cause headache, cramping, nausea, confusion and vomiting. This can be often called water intoxication or water poisoning, which happens when too much amount of fluids are consumed within a short period of time. It could be fatal, but it rarely happens. Make sure that you keep your water intake on a moderate level, and consider other factors which may affect your consumption.

While drinking enough water is the best cure to get rid of bloating, it can also cure a lot of ailments as it improves your health. It is in fact the best source of fluid, for it contains no calories or chemicals; it’s affordable and readily available for consumption. So start being conscious of your drinking habits now, and take advantage of the wonders that water has to offer!
