there isn't any set mileage or time for an alternator to last ,they can go out on brand new cars,most on average will last about 5 years,some longer,but there's no set standard for one to last,it all depends on how much the car is used,remember they was built by people and people make mistakes too, well recently i also replaced alternator of my car with used one from http://www.automotix.net/usedautoparts.html
