How is it possible to chat on fb to my friend when it says they are offline ie no green dot?

Ken	How is it possible to chat on fb to my friend when it says they are offline ie no green dot? Also everytime I open fb chat it says they were just online ie 2mins or 8 mins ago etc but I never actually see them online? thanks Answer Question
