How do I make my two dogs get along with each other?

How can I help my two dogs foster a friendship with one another? What concrete steps can I take?

As with human beings, developing a relationship or friendship between two dogs will take some time. It is advisable to allow the dogs to spend supervised time with one another in a wide, open and unfamiliar space so as to avoid any territorial issues from arising. It may be best to keep the dogs apart until they both individually accept that they will have to share their home with another dog.
