Does the iPhone 5 automatically turn off in Cold Weather?

My iphone 5 seems to turn off while skiing in cold weather. I keep my iphone in the outside pocket, so it may get pretty cold from the wind / weather. Will an iPhone 5 turn off automatically in cold weather? What's the iPhone 5 rated for as far as high / low temperatures it can withstand?

When you're outside in cold (sub-freezing) weather, make sure you put your iphone in an inside pocket close to body heat. Lithium ion batteries can drain very rapidly in extremely cold conditions. So you may just want to turn your phone off completely to save it's battery when in cold weather. I'm not sure but the iPhone 5 may have an automatic turn off when it gets too cold, in order to save the battery.

Because the iPhone 5 is made of alloy, it may transfer cold quicker to the internal components, when compared to previous versions of the iphone (3, 4, 4s).

Apple's website says that the minimum operating temperature is 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Here are the Environmental specs for iPhone 5:

-- Operating ambient temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
-- Nonoperating temperature: −4° to 113° F (−20° to 45° C)
-- Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
-- Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)
