Do dogs have short memories?

How long does a dog retain a memory? How can I ensure that it remembers what I teach it?

Dogs are quite similar to human beings in that they retain those memories which are most significant to them or that have a strong emotion attached to them.

A good way to ensure that your dog will remember what you teach it is by setting up a reward system. After doing this for two or three times, your dog will understand that it is doing something right. Rewarding a dog for good behaviour will teach it that what it has done is commendable and will be rewarded.
