The advantages for de-clawing a cat belong to the pet owner. It can help prevent damage to furniture and carpeting in the household. However, there are health risks to a cat who is declawed, such as infection. Cats use their claws for stretching as well.

It's much better to protect your furniture, than declaw your cat. You can get scratching posts, and cardboard cat scratches which will help deter your cat from scratch furniture.
