What does an "Arab Spring" mean?

In the context, of news and arab uprisings in the Middle East, what exactly does it mean when someone says "Arab Spring"?

Arab Spring is a reference to the movements to democracy in the Arab world. The word was first used in reference to the Iraq War. However, it's more accurately used for popular movements aimed at garnering more freedom and democracy starting in 2010-2011, in countries like Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Syria.
