How can I mute the sound on a Dell Laptop?

How do you mute the sound when using a Dell Laptop? I press the F1 key that has the "mute" icon, but can't get the sound to mute.

To mute the sound on a Dell Laptop using the keyboard do the following:

1) Press the 'Fn' key and hold it down, while pressing the 'F1' key.

Note: The 'Fn' key is on the bottom of the keyboard right next to the 'Ctrl' key.
