The fastest bird on earth is the Peregrine falcon which has been officially clocked in a dive at 217mph, according to the Book of World Records. The Peregrine falcons 'power dive' allows them to reach top speeds of over 200mph.

However, the the White-throated Needletail also known as Needle-tailed Swift or Spine-tailed Swift, is the fastest-flying bird in flight while flapping it's wings, being capable of flying 170 km/h (105mph).
