How can I keep my Facebook profile from appearing in searches?

Is it possible to keep my profile from appearing in searches? What can I do to stay off public searches?

Click on “Account” on the upper right hand corner of the main page and look for the heading that says “Connecting on Facebook”. Underneath that, click on “View settings”. From there, you can choose who can search for you on Facebook: whether friends only, friends of friends or everyone.
