Your cat may be suffering from psychological balding due to over grooming called psychogenic alopecia. It can be triggered by stress and boredom but it is an inherent medical or behavioral concern for certain individuals. Your cat’s excessive grooming can be a reaction to fleas so I recommend regular use of a good flea medication as your first step in treatment. Encourage your cat to engage in active play and don’t forget to set aside plenty of time for some old-fashioned love and affection. Medication should be used as a last resort only. Bladder infections or ringworm can also cause over grooming or hair loss with scabs in the abdomen. To confirm the diagnosis, you should have your vet evaluate your cat.
