The search box is now integrated into the address bar / URL box. So essentially there no longer a seperate "search box", instead the search box and address bar are integrated as one.

A search field is exceptionally useful in a browser because it is persistent. When we search we generate a page of results, and then after examining links we may well want to repeat the search from the search field, or we may modify the search slightly. There's Alt-Enter, don't forget.
If we don't have a search field we lose access to the original search term - after browsing around pages, links and other tabs.
A persistent search field is valuable, IMO. And we don't really need looong URLs, do we..?
