Is there a subway in Tel Aviv, Israel?

As of yet, Tel Aviv has no subway, but it does have a subway station under the Shalom Meir Tower, which was built in anticipation of a future system.

There is a planned Tel Aviv Light Rail project to be built for the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, but as of 2010, no real construction has begun.

Well in my last visit to Tel Aviv I have asked the same question to various peoples and everyone said that right now there is no subway here. However, the staff of Shenkin hotel where we stayed said that the proposal of subway route is under observation of district committee for planning and construction, and possibly next year it will be approved. Now I have heard various news that the projects has approved and they are finally building a subway-surface line.
