How do I introduce my cat to our new pet dog?

How can I make my cat feel comfortable with having a dog around? What activities or measures can I take to help them get along with each other more seamlessly?

Though some pet owners are lucky, introducing a dog to a cat will likely take a fair amount of time. A useful piece of advice would be to gradually expose your cat to the dog. You can place your cat in its carrier while the dog is in the room in order to let him get used to the unfamiliar sounds and smells. After a few hours, you can open the door and allow your cat to come out when it is ready.
