How do I delete my Facebook account?

Is it possible to delete one’s Facebook account? Where do I go to do this?

While it is not possible to delete one’s Facebook account in entirety, Facebook offers the option of deactivating one’s account. This can be done by clicking on “Account settings” under the “Account” button on the upper right hand corner of the screen. Once you arrive there, click on the “Settings” tab, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “deactivate” beside the “Deactivate account” button.
