To turn off suggested words (or inline Autocomplete) follow these steps:

1. Click on the 'Tools' menu (if you don't see 'Tools', it's also the icon button just under the close 'X' in the top-right of ie9).
2. Then select 'Internet Options'.
3. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
4. Go to the Browsing section, then scroll down and uncheck the checkbox that says "Use inline AutoComplete in the Internet Explorer Address Bar and Open Dialog".
5. Click OK.

Now when you type words in the IE9 search bar, you shouldn't get suggested words or domain names and they won't automatically get inserted into the search box.
