Can you stop someone viewing you on FB messenger?

If you stop someone from viewing your posts on facebook does this also work for the facebook messenger. I feel like I'm being stalked if he can see whenever I'm looking at my FB on my iphone.I get a message straight away saying he can see me?He is a friend but its creeping me out :-(

You can make yourself invisible to some of your friends using Facebook's Advanced Chat Settings.
It can be found by clicking the “gear” icon under Facebook Chat tab window. There you need to select “Turn on chat for all friends except...” and enter the name of this friend. He won't see if you are online or not.
